Welcome

Walthamstow Academy is part of United Learning, one of the most established academy sponsors in the country, with a proven track record in education. United Learning's aim, which we share, is to bring out 'the best in everyone' – students, staff and the wider academy community.

Serving the vibrant, diverse community in Walthamstow and celebrating all the challenges and opportunities of a central London school, we are dedicated to securing the best outcomes possible for our students. We want each and every student to gain the skills, qualifications and confidence they need to fulfil their dreams and ambitions and go on to lead successful, happy adult lives.

We are as dedicated to our teachers’ development as our students’; we offer a wide variety of continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities in-house and alongside colleagues across United Learning. Throughout the year, our staff are encouraged to share best practice and develop subject specialisms and are given the chance to train for leadership positions.

We are proud to be the first choice school for local families. If you would like to begin or progress your career at an ambitious, high-performing London school, I warmly encourage you to get in touch and visit us in person.

I look forward to meeting you.

Testimonials

"Walthamstow Academy is the place to be! I have been part of this academy since inception in 2006. Walthamstow Academy is a vibrant school with a great spirit of camaraderie where staff and students alike work in harmony to achieve the best outcomes for our students."

“The academy is well led and very supportive of its staff with a clear management structure which ensures that support is scaffolded where required. I have had the opportunity to attend and lead INSETS that have helped me grow professionally. I enjoy working at Walthamstow Academy because of the team spirit and the great opportunities that it offers. Students are respectful and there is mutual respect amongst staff."

“If you are looking for a school where you would enjoy your role and at the same time enhance your professional knowledge, then come and work at Walthamstow Academy!"

Head of Modern Foreign Languages, ninth year at Walthamstow Academy

"Walthamstow Academy is a great place to come for those seeking to grow their career in terms of taking on new responsibility and/or roles. I came here for a promotion initially (Head of Physics) and by the end of my first year I had been promoted again (Head of KS5 Science)."

"I have learnt more here, both in terms of performing new roles and training, and been provided with further opportunities than at any other school I have worked at. It is also really good fun to work here as the staff are very helpful and the Senior Team is extremely supportive. I would recommend Walthamstow Academy to anyone looking to develop themselves into middle leadership roles beyond being a classroom teacher."

Head of KS5 Science, second year at Walthamstow Academy

"Joining Walthamstow Academy as a trainee teacher has given me a fantastic experience of teaching for the first time. With a strong and supportive department, I felt immediately welcome and have learnt so much. Beyond the department there is a strong sense of unity amongst the staff, with everyone’s door always open. Fortnightly trainee teacher and NQT sessions have provided the relevant information at the right time to assist in development and there has been the opportunity to ask for sessions we feel are the most relevant. The Senior Leadership Team is always visible, providing continuous support to staff with a range of issues."

"Since joining the academy there have been many opportunities to take on extra responsibility and since September I have taken two school trips and helped in delivering the Most Able and Talented provision on a weekly basis. In the summer term, I will be coordinating the academy’s participation in an external provision programme whereby students will work with a PhD tutor on a six-week project, starting and ending with two further trips."

"I look forward to taking on further responsibility in the future, and there is a clear opportunity for career progression which I hope to take advantage of in the next few years."
