How to apply

• Application into Year 7 is via the local authority’s application system
• Students who wish to join our sixth form are invited to attend our Sixth Form Information Evening where they can find out how to apply directly to the Academy
• Entry into other years is via the local authority’s application system

Oversubscription criteria

Our published admission number is 180, should we receive more than 180 applications in any one year then the following over subscription criteria will apply:

1. Education Health Care Plan (EHCP)
2. Children in public care
3. Medical or social need. This is decided on a case by case basis
4. The child of a member of staff employed at the school for two years or more at the time of application or a staff member recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable shortage
5. Siblings already in the Academy
6. Children in Year 6 at Walthamstow Primary Academy
7. Distance from the Academy those closest to the Academy will be admitted first. As a guide, the distances at which 180 students were reached were within 0.696 miles in September 2021, 0.731 miles from September 2022 and 0.663 in September 2023.

Mid term admission arrangements

Should you wish your child to join Walthamstow Academy please note that all admissions are dealt with on our behalf by the London Borough of Waltham Forest Admissions Service. Full details and advice on academy admissions can be found on the London Borough of Waltham Forest Admissions Service website.

Waltham Forest Admissions Service operate a waiting list for each year group on our behalf. When a space becomes available, it is allocated to the child on the waiting list who ranks highest according to our oversubscription criteria (outlined above).

This applies to students joining the school mid-year for any year group, except Years 12 & 13 where they must be made directly to the Academy. (See Sixth Form applications page here)

Admissions to Sixth Form

Students who wish to join our sixth form should use the ‘virtual open evening materials’ provided on this website and look out for confirmation of our Sixth Form Open Evening later this term.
