The 150 students in the Walthamstow Academy Sixth Form have made an excellent start to the year.  Students in Year 13 have been working tirelessly towards their A level qualifications and have completed their UCAS applications, applying to many of the best universities in the country. Alongside this hard work, the Year 13 students have run societies for the Year 7s offering clubs in physics, photography, drama, debate, music technology, sports, Korean culture and coding to name a few.

The Year 12 students have had an exciting introduction to sixth form life and A levels, completing an induction week at the start of term, which gave them an insight into sixth form, extracurricular opportunities, reaching their aspirations and going on to higher education. Over the term, Year 12 students have had the chance to take part in many extracurricular opportunities with our students attending lectures at UCL, raising £260 in the Macmillan coffee morning cake sale and competing regionally in the Bar Mock Trial.  Six students in Year 12 have completed a languages course to enable them to be certified interpreters, developing their skills as well as giving them an opportunity to help their community. Recently 20 students attended the Oxford and Cambridge varsity rugby game and admission evening at Twickenham, where they had the opportunity to speak with Oxbridge students and admissions tutors about how to apply and what is required to be accepted. They also cheered along for Cambridge, whose women’s team won 0 –  24 and men’s team won 10 – 20.  The entire year group also completed a cultural capital treasure hunt around central London, exploring the culture, history and politics in their own capital city.
