Virtual Library

Welcome to the Walthamstow Academy Virtual Library. With over 200 books available in a wide variety of genres, we’re bringing our library straight to your home or mobile phone.

Borrowing an online book:

Reading needn’t be limited to physical books. With this Virtual Library there is no need to worry about closures, renewal or late returns, simply click on one of the following links to search for a specific book you have in mind, or just have a browse.

  • Choose from a selection of books to read straight off your browser and delve deeper using their library of study material.

  • Enjoy hundreds of classics to read, from Dickens to Austen to Wilde. Search their Popular Titles section for inspiration.

  • An ever-growing collection of downloadable ebooks with a focus on the classics. Guteneberg also hosts a huge science fiction selection.

  • Every week, you can find fun new writing and reading activities, free books, and exclusive videos with famous authors, starting with Tracey Beaker author Jacqueline Wilson. 

  • The Literary Trust boasts hundreds of activities, creative writing resources, competitions, and quizzes. Visit the Careers Corner for skills boosters, CV building activities, and careers advice.  

  • This app allows you to transform your local library card into access to thousands of ebooks and audio books. Full of best-selling authors, the app also includes settings to create dyslexia friendly texts, too.  

  • From classics to modern titles, with Libby you can borrow and enjoy ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines. You can also use the app to download ebooks, allowing you to continue your reading offline. 

  • With your library card, you can gain access to not just ebooks and audiobooks, but to a whole collection of graphic novels and comics, and a huge selection of non-fiction straight to your desktop.  

  • If you would like to apply for a Library Card via Waltham Forest, simply follow this link. This will allow you to access apps and websites (mentioned above) designed to bring your local library to your smartphone or computer.  

  • With Audible, stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. You'll find an incredible array of stories, including ebooks available in over eight different languages. 

  • Download for free onto your smartphone, there are a range of free books for you and your child to download. There is also a vast selection of books available for 99p or £1 each. 

  • All KS3 students have access to non-fiction articles on the Accelerated Reader website by logging in with their username and password and clicking on the 'Accelerated Reader Articles' tab (the third tab on the home screen). This gives you a choice of lots of different articles with quizzes attached.
