Social Sciences

The Social sciences department at Walthamstow Academy teaches a range of subjects that enables pupils to relate to the world that we live in and to understand different cultures and societies. Throughout this, students develop skills that prepare them for the wider world of education and work.

Entry Requirements: GCSE Grade 5 in English

Subject Content:

Students will learn how to use their knowledge and understanding of society and sociological theory. They will learn how concepts relate to the contexts of the changing society we live in and apply research and experiences to uncover and develop ways in which we come to understand people.

Units Studied in Year 12 & 13:

Component 1 - Education and Research methods. 33% of qualification.

Component 2 - Families and Religious Beliefs in society. 33% of qualification.

Component 3: Crime and Deviance and Theory and methods. 33% of qualification.
