Innovative curriculum

Walthamstow Academy students receive an all-round education that has the capacity to inspire, whilst retaining the excitement that keeps everyone engaged. The curriculum offers all subjects within the National Curriculum, but also extends well beyond this.
Our curriculum meets the needs of all learners and looks to the future, offering a growing number of skills-based vocational subjects, as well as more traditional academic courses. We also spend time teaching students how to learn, in the knowledge that once they know how to learn, they are able to learn anything.
All students in Years 7-11 study English,Maths, Science, ICT, PE and PSHE (which includes Citizenship and Work Related Learning). In their first two years at the Academy, they try many other subjects. As students develop, the number of subjects on offer continues to grow.
Students in Year 8 have the opportunity to study an extra language. In Year 9, students can choose from a wider range of additional subjects. This ‘mini-options’scheme allows students to focus on those subjects they have the most aptitude or interest in and start their BTEC or GCSE work early.
